Over 11,000 children explore nature and culture thanks to the Discovery Bus

This morning, RTL Nieuws featured the Discovery Bus – a joint initiative by the Jeugdeducatiefonds and the Cultuurfonds, coordinated by Royal Oostenrijk Group. The project aims to provide field trip opportunities for children from lower-income families.
In the segment, students from the Archipelschool in Amsterdam boarded the Discovery Bus for an unforgettable trip to Naturalis, the national museum of natural history. After weeks of studying the prehistoric era, they finally stood face to face with real-life dinosaur skeletons.
“School trips are incredibly important,” said Hans Spekman of the Jeugdeducatiefonds.
“If you’ve never seen a dinosaur, how can you imagine how big it really is? School trips both relax and enrich.”
A growing number of schools are reaching out for help with funding excursions. Without the voluntary parental contribution, many children miss out — not only on fun outings, but also on vital learning experiences outside the classroom.
Together with 14 coach companies, the Cultuurfonds, Jeugdeducatiefonds and Royal Oostenrijk Group have already helped more than 11,000 children across the Netherlands experience cultural and natural destinations.
